THERE was drama on Wednesday morning at the National Assembly after one of the MPs brought her baby to the floor of the House. Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Hassan walked into the chamber with a baby and was not ready to walk out until she was kicked out by sergeant-at-arms. Temporary House Deputy Speaker Christopher Omulele had a hectic time controlling MPs in the House as some engaging in shouting marches while others could be seen shoving each other. The Speaker ordered the Serjeant-at-arms to remove her from the chambers, terming her move as unprecedented.
On her part Zuleikha says she had an emergency and had to choose between coming with the baby to work, or not coming to work altogether. A section of women legislators led by Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai came to her defence demanding that a nursery be set up in Parliament Buildings threatening to come with their children if that is not implemented.
