TWO employees of Nairobi City County Government and a businessman were Friday fined a total of Ksh29 million by the anti corruption court for committing economic crimes and swindling a real estate investor Ksh8.8 million. The anti corruption court in Nairobi convicted Ms Esther Thogori, a clerical officer and Mr. Steve Oduor a building inspector on several counts of charges.
The two convicted alongside a businessman Mr George Karume. The three conspired to defraud a real estate investor 8.8 millioni shillings paid as a fees for approval of building plan to the Nairobi county government.
Trial magistrate found that the three had conspired to divert the money to personal accounts. The court ruled that the evidence presented by the Ethics and Anticorruption commission EACC clearly demonstrated that the three accused persons not only acted in concern and with a common intention in committing the economic crime but they were also able to defraud the investor.
The judge added that the accused conspired to defraud Nairobi county government and the investor who is a chinese National by dishonestly receiving and retaining the amount which was building plan approval monies meant for the city county government.
A total of 26 prosecutors witnesses testified during the hearing which commenced in November last year.
